Lifesaving advice for 1200 underprivileged students in Bangladesh

In April and May 2017, DHL Bangladesh conducted a series of Road Safety and Earthquake Preparedness workshops for more than 1,200 students from low-income communities, in partnership with Teach for Bangladesh, a non-profit social enterprise and a member of the Teach For All global network.

The workshops took place in 24 classrooms across 11 government primary schools in Dhaka, and were led by an activity coordinator and 26 employee volunteers from DHL BD. DHL and TFB also jointly prepared presentation materials including flip charts that were designed to help the students understand and remember the key points. Each student was also given a Road Safety and Earthquake Preparedness booklet that they can share with their family members and friends.

DHL Bangladesh is committed to providing learning opportunities to underprivileged students and over the years, its preparedness workshop has reached students in 22 partner schools. So far, some 3,600 students have benefited from the workshop and are in a better position to help improve awareness and preparedness by sharing potentially lifesaving information in their communities.

The workshop has particular relevance in Bangladesh because road accidents and earthquakes are common here. It is significant that both the teachers and the parents of the students who attended the sessions were grateful for the effective way in which the students were made to appreciate the importance of safety awareness.
