Bonn - Statkraft, one of Europe's leading power purchase agreement (PPA) providers, and DHL Group have signed a long-term PPA for renewable electricity from an onshore wind farm in northern Germany that was commissioned in 2025.1 Under the ten-year agreement, which began in February, Statkraft will supply around 35 GWh of renewable electricity annually, covering roughly 8% of DHL Group's current electricity demand in Germany. The electricity is generated by the newly constructed Sollwitt-Pobüll onshore wind park in Schleswig-Holstein, which has an installed capacity of 13.2 MW.
This agreement marks another important step in DHL Group's decarbonization journey in Germany. As the company's first long-term onshore wind PPA in the country, it broadens DHL Group's renewable procurement beyond offshore wind and supports the diversification of its renewable energy supply. By sourcing renewable power directly from a project outside Germany's EEG subsidy scheme, the company strengthens the resilience of its energy supply, reduces its environmental footprint, and contributes to the further expansion of renewable capacity.
"This agreement is an important milestone for our energy strategy in Germany," said Anna Spinelli, Chief Procurement Officer and Head of Mobility at DHL Group. "By adding our first onshore wind PPA, we are strengthening the resilience of our energy supply and directly supporting new, renewable capacity in Germany. Together with our offshore PPAs, this takes us another major step closer to decarbonizing our operations."
By partnering with DHL Group, Statkraft is expanding its renewable energy solutions into the logistics sector. The agreement strengthens the Norwegian energy group's position as a leading provider of tailored PPA models and a reliable partner for major industrial customers.
"With its energy requirement, the logistics industry is a key player in the energy transition. We are delighted to have DHL, one of the world's leading players in this industry, as our partner," said Patrick Koch, Head of German Origination at Statkraft. "Our PPA model combines several advantages: long-term price security, access to renewable electricity from new wind turbines, and a tailor-made solution adapted to DHL Group's specific preferences."
The contract with Statkraft complements DHL Group's offshore PPAs in Germany. By adding onshore wind to its portfolio, DHL Group now sources renewable energy from multiple technologies and partners, enhancing local sourcing, strengthening supply security, and ensuring long-term price stability.
1 The contract was signed with Deutsche Post AG, the German legal entity of DHL Group, and the renewable electricity will supply both Deutsche Post and DHL operations across Germany.
