Deutsche Post DHL Group is increasing the pace of its planned decarbonization of the company. To this end, the Group is investing in measures to reduce its CO2 emissions. The funds will flow in particular into alternative aviation fuels, the expansion of the e-vehicle fleet and new owned buildings operating carbon-neutral*. Along the way towards its net-zero emissions target by 2050, which has already been in force for 4 years, the company is committing to new, ambitious interim targets. For example, Deutsche Post DHL Group commits as part of the acclaimed Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.
To support our customers’ decarbonization efforts, DHL introduced GoGreen Plus in 2021. GoGreen Plus products are based on true value chain decarbonization – insetting – rather than carbon compensation or offsetting.
GoGreen Plus is a value-added service to a DHL shipment, contributing to decarbonization measures within DHL’s logistics network. By using alternative fuels and/or technologies, DHL reduces the use of fossil fuels in the mode of transport used for the GoGreen Plus shipment. This does not necessarily mean that the specific shipment is physically transported with the assets using these fuels or technologies. Further information - for example, on specific decarbonization measures - can be found here.
* Carbon-Neutral Building refers to a DHL internal rating standard for building emissions. It includes buildings’ operational carbon emissions according to Scope 1 and Scope 2, with 75% or more carbon reduction and a maximum of 25% offsets with verified carbon credits allowed (compared to a baseline where fossil energy is used for electricity and heating). The reduction of emissions is achieved by renewable energies, like solar PV, and the deployment of energy efficient technologies.
